WHAT IS PHYSICAL THERAPY?

Physical Therapists are licensed health care professionals who provide evaluation, treatment and education to rehabilitate patients suffering from a wide variety of diseases, biomechanical dysfunction, and injuries related to muscle, nerve, bone or other soft tissue.

Using manual techniques such as joint mobilization, soft tissue massage, and muscle energy techniques in conjunction with modalities such as ultrasound and electric stimulation, physical therapists facilitate the reduction of pain and improve overall function.

Physical Therapists are state licensed practitioners and graduates of an accredited Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate physical therapy (PT, MPT, DPT). All P.T.'s receive a broad and comprehensive physical therapy education, however, through clinical experience and continuing education, P.T's tend to concentrate and/or specialize in areas such as sports medicine, geriatrics, orthopedics, neurology, wound management, pediatrics and occupational health.

Ask your physical therapist what type of continuing education or specialization credentials he/she has received. Go to S.M.A.R.T. FAQ's to see a list of classes attended by SMART Clinic therapists.
